Cornwall College’s daCosta Cup midfielder Dane Buckley died on Thursday, May 30th , weeks after he was shot and injured in a drive by shooting in his St James community.
The 18 year-old had represented Cornwall College for the past three seasons after he transferred from the Mt Pleasant Football Academy and was expected to return for his final season when the 2024 ISSA daCosta Cup kicked off.
There was an outpouring of grief from members of the Cornwall College team and members of the school family when the news broke on
Thursday.
Buckley who was an attacking midfielder, ended the 2022 season early after he broke his leg but returned last year to play a big role in his team qualifying for the quarterfinals of both the daCosta Cup and Ben Francis KO competitions.
